New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday constituted a 13 member high-powered committee to look into the issue of growing number of casualties of Amarnath pilgrims.

The Apex Court constituted the Committee, which is to be headed by Chairman of the Amarnath Shrine Board and other members such as: Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir as nodal officer with Secretaries of MHA, MoEF, MoHFW with DGP, PWD and Home Secretary of the state.

The Committee will also comprise members of DG CRPF, BSF, BRO, the court said, adding that the state Governor, being the ex-officio Chairman of the Amarnath Shrine Board, would nominate two members -- including one environmentalist – and the other the CEO Shrine Board, for the committee.
