New Delhi: In a major relief to BJP's Lok Sabha Parliamentarian from Bellary constituency, J Shanta, the Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed the order of Karnataka High Court which has set aside her election order.

While admitting Shanta’s petition, the top court said that she can duly participate in the parliament proceedings, signature on the register, but cannot participate in the voting.

The Karnataka High Court had earlier set aside the election of Shanta, BJP's Lok Sabha MP from Bellary constituency. She is the sister of former Karnataka minister Sriramulu.

A petition was filed in the court against Shanta, alleging that she used fake caste certificates and that there were counting irregularities.

Shanta is also said to be a close confidante of Janardhan Reddy and is one of the persons indicted in the illegal mining probe report filed by former Judge Santosh Hegde last year.
