New Delhi: The Supreme Court has turned down the petition of Samajwadi Party MLA from Bhadohi Gyanpur, Vijay Kumar Mishra for shifting him from Meerut jail to Naini (Allahabad) jail. Three cases including Gangster Act are pending against Mishra who is currently lodged in Meerut jail.

Turning down the petition of Mishra, a SC bench of Justice DK Jain has asked the High Court to hear the petition soon.

Earlier, appearing for Mishra, senior counsel Mukul Rohtagi and PK Jain pleaded to the court that their client has been sifted to Meerut jail from Naini as he is a

legislator of the party in Opposition. They further stated that no case had been lodged against the legislator at Meerut.

Counsels added Mishra is taken to Allahabad by road which poses a threat to his life.
