As Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders lock horns on Saturday night in what could be termed as a quarterfinal, the losing team could see themselves out of IPL 2015. Five IPL teams are in the play-offs race (CSK with 16 points are almost in the play-offs while KXIP and DD have ousted from the tournament), who are fighting for the 3 play-offs place raising the excitement level of IPL 8.
Without getting into a lot of permutations and combinations, here we bring some details of how your favorite teams can qualify in quarter-finals.

Today’s match: RR vs KKR

If Rajasthan Royal's win:

The story of RR is same as that of an over enthusiastic athlete, who runs the first half of race fast and gets himself kicked out in later half. After winning 5 matches in trot Rajasthan might have easily made it to the play-offs. RR are currently placed at no. 6 in the points table with 14 points in 13 matches, a win over Kolkata will take them to 16 points in 14 matches. This will put RR on no. 2 in points table and they can qualify for play-offs.

If Kolkata Knight Rider's win:

The defending champions after losing their last game against MI has made the play-offs qualification tough for themselves. A win over RR will see KKR through to the semi-finals, ending the at no. 1 position (if CSK loses to KXIP and DD beats RCB in last league match). A loss will almost end KKR’s campaign and can only qualify if SRH and MI match is washed off in rain.

If match gets abandoned by rain:

If play gets abandoned by rain, then KKR will end a point ahead of Rajasthan. In that condition RR can only qualify if DD beats RCB and SRH vs MI game washed away in rain, which seems quite rare.
