Chandigarh: Punjab government on Tuesday sanctioned an ex-gratia grant of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the 13 school children and the bus driver who died after a truck collided with their school bus in Jalandhar on Monday.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal also approved an aid of Rs 25,000 each for every injured student, a spokesperson of the Chief Minister's Office said, adding that the file to this effect was cleared by the CM on Tuesday.

Badal had directed the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar to personally ensure that the grant is handed over to the bereaved families by Wednesday, the spokesperson added.

Thirteen children and the bus driver were killed and eight other students injured when a truck collided with their school bus on the Jalandhar-Nakodar road.
