New Delhi: Terming Judicial Standards and Accountability Bill as unfit for handling corruption in the Judiciary, Team Anna has demanded to scrap it and bring the judiciary under the purview of Jan Lokpal.

Expressing displeasure over the present format of the bill, one of the core members of Team Anna, Lawyer Prashant Bhushan said, “The government is misleading common man. The present form does not have any provision for the investigation of corrupt Judges.”

“Moreover, after the Standing Committee report on Judicial Accountability Bill the hope for a strong law is also lost,” added Bhushan.

Bhushan said that Team Anna had withdrawn its demand for Judges under Lokpal ambit after the Centre expressed confidence in bringing strong accountability law for the judiciary.

Former Law Minister and Supreme Court lawyer Shanti Bhushan also expressed disagreement over the bill by alleging it anti-constitutional.

Pointing towards the structure of probing agency ‘Oversight Committee’ Prashant Bhushan said that the presence of Members of Parliament and Attorney General of India will lead to interruptions in the judicial working.

Earlier, Prashant Bhushan had started the ‘Campaign for Judicial Accountability and Reforms (CJAR)’ targeting the Central Government over the present format of the bill.
