No monthly charges will be levied on SC beneficiaries in the rural areas, an official release stated quoting Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in Chandigarh on Monday.

The scheme was launched by the state government in 2006 to extend the facility of private water connections in the rural areas.
The state government has also written off the pending arrears of the SC beneficiaries under the scheme amounting to Rs 61.42 crore up to April 30, 2014, Hooda said.
He said that the decision would benefit more than 8.48 lakh SC beneficiaries.
Under the scheme, the entire expenditure, including connection fee and provision of 200-litre water tank, is borne by the state government.
In addition, 50 percent concession was given to the SC households in the payment of monthly charges, it added.
