Even after much hue and cry over reforms in the education system of the country, no concrete steps have been taken so far by the government in this regard. The condition can be gauged from the fact that nearly half a dozen Bill related to reforms in Education sector are pending in the Parliament for want of its approval.

The Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board has decided to amend its examination pattern in order to impart quality education in the state. Now, 70 percent marks will be awarded for written examination while 30 for practical test and internal evaluation in high schools, which will be implemented for class 9 and 10 from July 2012.

After implementing the Right to Education Act providing free and compulsory education to the children of 6-14 years, the Centre is making efforts to bring the students of secondary level (class 9 and 10) under the Act. If state governments agree, the Central government will begin the formality to include students of secondary level under the Act.
