New Delhi: In a big setback to Tata Motors, the Supreme Court on Wednesday quashed the decision of the then West Bengal government to acquire the land in Singur for the Nano car plant. The land in Singur was acquired by the Left Front government in 2006.

After the Allahabad High Court annulled the acquisition of 156.903 hectare land in Saberi village for Noida Extension Residential Scheme, farmers of other villages are also planning to make a move to the court. The hearing of four dozen other petitions filed by the residents of Saberi and Haibatpur villages is still pending in the court.

After the Supreme Court’s rebuff on land acquisition, the Uttar Pradesh government has suffered another blow with the Allahabad High Court on Thursday stalling land acquisition proceedings by the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Corporation (UPSIDC) in a village in Bulandshahr using the same urgency clause.
