Amid growing death toll during Amarnath Yatra, it has been found that carelessness of the pilgrims is also a reason for deaths. This has been said by the doctors appointed to take care of the devotees on their way to the holy shrine of Amarnath. Many of the devotees are walking on foot to the shrine while holding fast leading to decline in their blood sugar level. Significantly, 88 deaths have been reported so far.

Puri Shankaracharya Adhokshajanand Teerth Maharaj on Tuesday expressed grave concern over the harm to the ecology of Kashmir caused by "quintals" of polythene littered by pilgrims along the Amarnath yatra track.
