Rohtak/Chandigarh: The situation in Haryana today continued to remain tense due to ongoing agitation carried out by Jat protesters, resulting which army personnel were deployed in eight districts. The soldiers have been deployed by air to the violence-hit Rohtak town because the protesters had dug up roads to block the entry of the military.

Srinagar: Two unidentified militants were killed today in an encounter with security forces in north Kashmir's Kupwara district, the army said. Acting on specific information about the presence of militants in Putshai area of Lolab in the district, security forces cordoned off the area and began a search operation today, an army official said.

New Delhi: April 13, 1919, almost two thousand people, including women, and children had gathered at the Jallianwala Bagh, in the vicinity of the Golden Temple complex to celebrate Baisakhi. They were totally unaware of what was about to befall. General R.S.H Dyre, with fifty armed soldiers entered the place and without issuing any warning ordered the soldiers to open fire on the celebrating crowd. According to unconfirmed reports, more than a thousand people died while many were wounded.
