Over 70 killed as IS militants attack Army checkpoints in Egypt

Cairo: Heavily-armed IS militants in Egypt yesterday launched a wave of simultaneous suicide attacks on Army checkpoints in the restive Sinai Peninsula, killing over 70 people, mostly soldiers, in the biggest assault and triggering a massive retaliatory strike by the military using troops and F-16s.

Molestation case: St Stephen's Professor's arrest stayed till 17th August

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court today stayed the arrest of St Stephen's College Professor Satish Kumar, an accused of molesting a PhD student, till August 17. Justice Indermeet Kaur also issued notice to Delhi Police on Kumar's plea directing it to file a status report with regard to the progress made in the investigation of the case before next date of hearing.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday held that there can be no compromise in a rape case in the name of promising wedlock. An Apex Court bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra said that any compromise promising wedlock between a rape accused and the victim compromises the dignity of the woman.

Jaipur: Actress-turned-politician Hema Malini's driver was today arrested on charges of causing death by negligence after her Mercedes collided with another car, killing a four-year-old girl and injuring the BJP MP along with four others last night. The 66-year-old actress underwent a surgery for her wounds at Fortis hospital here and is doing fine.
