Electric bikes in India

Electric bikes in India

16 Mar 2015

The topsy-turvy nature of petrol and diesel prices in India has forced the bike manufacturers to look for vehicles which can run on other fuel sources. Of late manufacturers have developed bikes which can run on electricity. Though these bikes are still lying low on popularity chart but slowly they are creating a market for themselves. On the back of incentives announced by the Central Government in 2011, the average monthly sales of electric bike in India has risen to 20 per cent in next two years. Electric bikes are driven by a brushless DC electric motor (BLDC) powered by a rechargeable battery, charger and a controller, unlike the internal combustion engines that burn liquid fuel to drive their engines. The main highlight of these vehicles is no fossil fuel is consumed to drive them.
