With SAD-BJP making its way to glory in Punjab for the second consecutive term, another history has been scripted in the assembly election 2012 in Punjab. Out of the total 93 women candidates contesting the 117-seat Punjab Assembly polls, for the first time 14 emerged victorious. Till now a maximum of 9 women candidates managed to get into the assembly. Six women candidates each of ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and opposition Congress and two of BJP were successful this time to secure victories.
