Ahmedabad: Heavy rains triggered by a deep depression in the weather system claimed as many 34 lives in Gujarat yesterday. Saurashtra region was pounded by incessant rains with Gir, Somnath, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Rajkot and Ahmedabad being the worst-affected districts.

Vadodara: 113 Indian fishermen, who were released from Pakistan jails on June 19, have arrived here. The fishermen, who were apprehended by Pakistan marine security in the last one to three years from Arabian sea in Kutch District, bordering Pakistan, arrived at Vadodara from Amritsar last night and embarked to their respective villages on the same night.

Ahmedabad: Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Babu Bajrangi, undergoing life imprisonment in the 2002 Naroda Patiya riot case, today withdrew his plea seeking regular bail after the Gujarat High Court observed the application should be rejected as bail cannot be granted only on medical grounds.

Ahmedabad: As the deep depression over east-central Arabian sea further intensified into a cyclonic storm "Ashobaa", the weather department here issued warning to fishermen along the Gujarat coast, which is expected to receive heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours.
