'Guddu Rangeela' - Movie Review

'Guddu Rangeela' - Movie Review

03 Jul 2015

Mumbai: It was touted to be a film which takes on the Khap Panchayat as it is inspired by the real life tragic love story of Manoj and Babli who were killed in the name of honour. So 'Guddu Rangeela' had all the potential of becoming a powerful, deeply disturbing film which shows the mirror to the archaic, barbaric ways that a particular panchayat functions in. But, alas, it is not.

'Terminator Genisys' - Movie Review

03 Jul 2015

Mumbai: While the first two 'Terminator' movies redefined action cinema, blockbuster summers and the usage of CGI in motion pictures, a lot has changed in the twenty years since 'Terminator 2' released. CGI has now become just another element in movies; it's no longer something special. Every movie has huge CGI, and some like David Fincher's films use CGI to construct normal sets without the audience knowing.

'Uvaa' - Movie review

27 Jun 2015

Mumbai: One of the tracks in the film, Jiyo Lalla, has a line that goes: ‘Lagake taaron mein tadka, chalo maggi banate hain’. Like the now infamous two-minute noodles, the makers seem to have had an instant recipe for a film -- take a social evil as the premise, stir in some real-life incidents, throw in some juveniles and season it with a bunch of assorted characters. The end result is a hard-to-digest khichdi.

'Inside Out' - Movie Review

26 Jun 2015

Mumbai: Do you remember back in 2009 when you went to the theater to watch a Pixar movie named 'Up', where you expected a 'cartoon' about a house flying off with the help of balloons, and you ended up sobbing uncontrollably in the first ten minutes of the movie? Do you remember placing that movie in a special place in your heart, and revisiting it every time you're down in life? It's time to make some room in your heart, because there's now a second movie that does those exact same things to you, and it's made by the same people who made 'Up'.

'Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho' - Movie review

27 Jun 2015

Mumbai: The film jokes about rape and rape victims, which are perhaps as insensitive and harmful as that of the regressive traditions and beliefs that it set out to make fun of. Many a film has fallen prey to the good intention but awful execution trap. Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho does too.
