Erbil(Iraq): A US air strike in Afghanistan has killed a high-ranking al Qaeda operational commander, the US military said on Friday. The US military named the target of the strike as Abu Khalil al-Sudani, saying he was killed in a July 11 strike in the Bermal district of Afghanistan's Paktika province.

Pul-e Alam (Afghanistan): At least 14 Afghan soldiers were killed in a US air strike on an army checkpoint in a Taliban-infested province south of Kabul today, officials said. "At 6.00 am this morning, two US helicopters attacked a checkpoint in Baraki Barak district of Logar province," District Governor Mohammad Rahim Amin told reporters.
