SINGAPORE: The captain of the AirAsia jet that crashed into the sea in December was out of his seat conducting an unusual procedure when his co-pilot apparently lost control, and by the time he returned it was too late to save the plane, two people familiar with the investigation said.

Jakarta: Weather was believed to be a "triggering factor" in the crash of AirAsia Flight 8501 into the Java Sea with 162 people on board en route from Indonesia's Surabaya to Singapore, a met agency said in a report posted on its website Sunday.
