Karnataka Government To Follow Supreme Court's Modified Order On Cauvery Water Release

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government on Tuesday decided to obey the Supreme Court's modified order which asked it to release 12,000 cusecs of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu till September 20, though it said "this order is the most difficult to follow".

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday modified its order on Cauvery water and directed the Karnataka government to release 12,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu everyday till September 20. In its previous order, the top court asked the Karnataka government to release 15,000 cusecs water to Tamil Nadu.

Bengaluru: India's technology hub of Bengaluru deployed riot police on Monday to rein in protests as a water dispute turned violent, with cars and buses set of fire and people pelted with stones. Television footage showed flames pouring from burnt-out vehicles as angry crowds gathered nearby, while police said the local metro network had been temporarily suspended.

New Delhi: As protests against the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu showed no signs of abating in Bengaluru and other districts in the basin, Bengaluru administration on Monday issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC that too with an immediate effect. Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah writes letter to Tamil Nadu CM J. Jayalalithaa over ongoing violent protests.
