Bihar, which not long back held the dubious distinction of being one of the most unsafe places for females as well as males, has finally broke the shackles to wake up on the issue of women safety. With the aim to set up one Mahila Thana in each district, the Cabinet has approved 40 Women police stations for the state.

Patna: With reports of eight fresh deaths on Friday, the total deaths in Bihar flood increased to 135, with Bhojpur district accounting for 12 deaths in the second round of floods due to the swollen Ganga. The flood, caused by a spate in the Ganga, Sone, Punpun, Burhi Gandak, Ghaghra, Kosi and other rivers, has affected 31.33 lakh people in 1,934 villages in 12 districts, a Disaster Management Department statement said.

Patna/Gopalganj: All the police personnel of Town police station in Gopalganj have been suspended in connection with the suspected hooch tragedy which has claimed the lives of 16 people. "The 15 policemen, including the Officer In-charge of Town police station under which the tragedy took place in Khajurbanni locality, were suspended yesterday on charge of dereliction of duty," Superintendent of Police Raviranjan Kumar told reporters.
