Hyderabad: Polling began on a brisk note for the by-election to Medak Lok Sabha seat in Telangana and Nandigama (SC) Assembly seat in Andhra Pradesh at 7 AM on Saturday. By-election is being held in Medak as the Lok Sabha seat was vacated by Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief K Chandrasekhar Rao upon becoming Chief Minister of the newly-formed Telangana state.

Nagpur: With Maharashtra assembly elections round the corner, the NCP-Congress combine will now once again try to retain Vidarbha, which has mostly remained a Congress stronghold since 1990. A glimpse into last five elections shows Congress had recorded its best ever performance by winning 25 out of 62 Vidarbha seats in 1990 and later 27 out of 52 in 1999.

New Delhi: The Election Commission (EC) on Friday announced that the Assembly elections in Haryana and Maharashtra will be held on October 15. Giving details of the election schedule, Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath said apart from these states, by-elections will be conducted on the same day for five assembly seats in five states -Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.
