New Delhi: Over 237,000 people have so far been rescued in flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir and the train route between Srinagar and Baramulla has been restored, an official statement said.

Dehradun: Uttarakhand's resident commissioner on Tuesday handed over a cheque of Rs 10 crore to his Jammu and Kashmir counterpart in New Delhi on behalf of Chief Minister Harish Rawat for the flood-hit people of the state.

New Delhi: A train carrying around 260 Jammu & Kashmir flood survivors arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday.  Most of the flood survivors were daily wage workers from Bihar and Jharkhand. It may be mentioned here that after eleven days, life seems to be returning to normalcy in Kashmir but the extent of damage caused by devastating floods is still unfolding.

New Delhi: The Central government has sought daily report from the Jammu and Kashmir government on the relief and rehabilitation work being carried out in the flood-hit state, a Home Ministry statement said. Besides, the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) under the chairmanship of Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth met here and reviewed the relief work in the flood-affected areas in the state.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court asked the Jammu and Kashmir government to consider giving ex-gratia payment for people affected by the floods and to immediately take up the issue of restoring banking facilities in the affected areas. The bench of Chief Justice RM Lodha, Justice Kurian Joseph and Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman said that coupled with the rescue and relief operation, focus should be on the rehabilitation of people.
