New York: The widely reported 'Jupiter as shield' concept, implying that the planet shields Earth from comet impacts, is incorrect, says a new study. Not only is the 'Jupiter as shield' concept not true but perhaps Jupiter's most important role in fostering the development of life on Earth was just the opposite – delivering the volatile materials from the outer Solar System needed for life to form, the researchers said.

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), the largest open schooling system in the world and an autonomous institution under MHRD, GOI will conduct the practical examinations of its October- November 2012 cycle before the theory examinations, for the convenience of its learners. This is a deviation from the past practice of conducting practical examinations only after the theory examinations.
