Dehradun: A Cabinet Committee headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday sanctioned Rs 7,346 crore for the relief and rehabilitation of flood-hit Uttarakhand.

Dehradun: Uttarakhand government has asked for central assistance of Rs 13,000 crore to rebuild infrastructure and rehabilitate people in around 300 villages ravaged by the floods last month. Out of this, Rs Rs 8,000 crore would be required to rehabilitate people in around 300 villages, including 60 villages totally destroyed in the floods.

Rattled by the Himalayan tsunami that ravaged Uttarakhand, the state government on Monday clamped a blanket ban on construction of houses and commercial establishments along river banks and announced setting up of a statutory body for development of flood-hit areas.

Rescue of pilgrims stranded in Badrinath came to an end on Tuesday with about 150 of them being safely evacuated even as the administration struggled with the task of supplying relief materials to remote parts of Uttarakhand where food grain shortage has been reported in 170 villages.

Dehradun: At least 14 bodies have been recovered so far from the debris in villages which were buried in a cloud burst in Uttarakhand, police said today. As many as 39 people were feared dead yesterday in the incident that occurred in six villages of Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts, the police said.
