After the refusal of the Indian Sanskrit scholars to help them acquire command over the language, US has urged its young generation to learn Sanskrit.

New Delhi: The Centre on Thursday submitted before the Supreme Court that Sanskrit will be the third language in classes 6 to 8 in Kendriya Vidyalayas. Appearing before the bench headed by Chief Justice H L Dattu, Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi sought its permission to file an affidavit on the controversy arising out of Centre's decision to drop German as an alternative to Sanskrit as third language in Kendriya Vidyalayas. The bench allowed him to file an affidavit and posted the matter for Friday.

New Delhi: The Centre on Friday stood by its decision on replacing German as third language with Sanskrit in Kendriya Vidyalayas but conceded before the Supreme Court that no exam would be conducted for the subject in the current session.

New Delhi: Kendriya Vidyalaya has decided to discontinue teaching German as an alternative to Sanskrit as third language, a decision which HRD Minister Smriti Irani on Friday said was taken in view of "national interest".
