Mumbai: Telecom stocks today rose by up to 4 percent after the government allowed companies to share airwaves in the same band so as to reduce call drops. Shares of Bharti Airtel surged 4.13 percent and Idea Cellular gained 2.56 percent on BSE. Reliance Communications too jumped 3.52 percent but later pared the gains as the trade progressed.

New Delhi: Coming out in support of telecom operators on the issue of call drops, industry body Assocham today said it is unfair to blame them as there are many other critical factors like lack of spectrum and towers which are causing the problem.

New Delhi: Telecom regulator TRAI, under the new Chairman, R S Sharma, will look at resolving service quality issue such as call drops on a priority basis and simultaneously expedite work on Net neutrality, broadcast digitisation and spectrum pricing, among others.

New Delhi: In a bid to address the annoying problem of call drops and optimise usage of scarce spectrum, the state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has started talks with five telecom firms for intra-circle roaming, its chairman and managing director Anupam Shrivastava has said.

New Delhi: Doing some plain speaking on call drops, Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad asked mobile operators to walk the extra mile to reinforce their systems as they have enough spectrum to provide telephony services without interruption. The Minister said he has asked sectoral regulator TRAI to suggest a disincentive mechanism to tackle the problem, though he refused to share if it will be a financial disincentive.
