New Delhi: With Bihar battling floods despite receiving less than normal rains, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking the Centre's intervention as he insisted that desilting the river Ganga is the only solution to avoid the almost annual occurrence of floods.

Patna/Gopalganj: All the police personnel of Town police station in Gopalganj have been suspended in connection with the suspected hooch tragedy which has claimed the lives of 16 people. "The 15 policemen, including the Officer In-charge of Town police station under which the tragedy took place in Khajurbanni locality, were suspended yesterday on charge of dereliction of duty," Superintendent of Police Raviranjan Kumar told reporters.

Patna: A leader of the ruling Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) was shot dead on Saturday in Bihar's Bhagalpur district, police said. Vinod Yadav, resident of Rasulpur locality, was killed by armed assailants on a motorcycle, when he along with two other people were headed for a meeting.

Patna: As the toll in the mystery deaths in Bihar's Gopalganj district climbed to 13 on Wednesday, opposition blamed Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for the tragedy. "Three more people died on Wednesday, including an early morning death and two later during the day, taking the overnight death toll to thirteen," a district official said.
