Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday appointed eight new information commissioners. The appointees include four journalists, a lawyer, a social worker, a former student union leader and a close associate of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav will tour the state in September to inspect various development and welfare projects launched by his government, an official said on Wednesday. While the official maintained that the visit was aimed at stock taking of government programmes, sources said the inspections were part of the ruling party's attempts to regain lost ground.
