Lucknow: Flood situation on Tuesday worsened in Uttar Pradesh due to release of water from Nepal and adjoining states of Madhya Pradesh and Uttrakhand which led to further rise in water levels of major rivers. According to Central Water Commission (CWC), the Ganga is flowing above the danger marks at Fafamau and Chhatnag (both in Allahabad) besides in Mirzapur, Varanasi, Ghazipur and Ballia.

Washington: The American multinational banking and financial services company Wells Fargo has made a USD100,000 grant to provide flood relief and rehabilitation in the Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh areas in north India. Wells Fargo also is temporarily waiving all remittance transfer fees for 'ExpressSend' transfers from a linked checking or savings account for customers sending money using the ExpressSend service to friends and family in India impacted by the floods, according to a media release.

To facilitate speedy claim processing for the Uttarakhand flood victims, the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) is planning to open a camp in Dehradun. Along with this, there are also plans to open mini offices in various areas of the state. The Finance Minister P Chidambaram has already directed LIC to make arrangements for faster claim processing.
