Panaji: If someone really wants to stay safe, they should not take VIP security cover, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said yesterday. At a function in Panaji organised by the Goa unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party to celebrate the former Chief Minister's 60th birthday, Parrikar said he often pleads with policemen guarding him to keep distance from him.

New Delhi: Union Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, whose hate speech kicked up a political storm and stalled Parliament, has been given VIP security. 47-year-old Jyoti, who is a Minister of State in Food Processing Ministry, will now have 11 para-military personnel guarding her round-the-clock, official sources said on Monday.
