US air defence forces on alert after attack on Canadian parliament

Washington: Air defence forces were put on high alert and cities across US increased security after Wednesday's deadly shooting attacks on the Canadian parliament in the capital city of Ottawa. Shortly after the attack, President Barack Obama spoke to Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper on the phone and offered any assistance Canada needed in responding to these attacks, the White House said in a statement.

New Delhi: In the first such online auction, a fancy vehicle registration number on Friday fetched Delhi government a whopping Rs 12.5 lakh and it collected a total of over Rs 74 lakh from the excercise. According to a transport department official, registration number 0001, with a minimum reserved price fixed at Rs 5 lakh, was sold for Rs 12.5 lakh.
