"Three militants have been killed in the gunbattle which began last night," a police official said.

    
He said the debris of a house where the militants were hiding is being cleared and searches are going on.
    
The identity and group affiliation of the slain militants is being ascertained.
    
Security forces launched an operation in Hanjan village in Rajpora area of Pulwama following information about presence of militants there on Saturday night.

The police said that a large group of heavily armed guerrillas have infiltrated into the Indian side of the LoC in this area following which a massive operation was started against them by the security forces.

Earlier, India lodged a strong protest with Pakistan against repeated ceasefire violations along the International Border in Jammu region by forces across the border and warned the neighbouring country of powerful retaliation in the event of fresh firing.

At a Sector Commander (DIG-Brigadier)-level flag-meeting, India also demanded the immediate return of a villager who strayed across the frontier, a BSF officer said in a statement.
     
At the meeting, BSF flagged the issue of killing of its Constable Sanjay Dhar and injuring of three other personnel and four civilians on July 16, 2014 in firing from across the border.

India also raised the issue of unprovoked firing from heavy machine guns and mortar shelling by Pakistan Rangers from July 16 to 20 and August 10 to August 24 by more than 50 Pakistani posts stretching from PP Hussain to PP Jamshaid specifically targeting BSF troops, border outposts and Indian border population and their properties, the statement said.
