Bhiwani: The security has been stepped up after the community members of IFS officer Neelam Sharma opposed her inter-caste wedding with Gujarat cadre IAS officer Kuldeep Arya.

As Kuldeep belongs to Ahir community, Sharma’s family members are unhappy with her association as she belongs to Brahmin community.

The Brahmin community held a Panchayat which opposed Sharma’s decision and reprimanded her father.

However, after her uncle appeared before the Panchayat, he said that the couple has chosen each other and the family will not interfere in the matter. Hearing this, Khap Pradhan of 17 villages, Mahavir, said that he was against Sharma’s decision of inter-caste marriage.

Head of Panchayat RK Sharma said such mindset is not good for the community.

Sharma is yet to reach her village in Bhiwani and her wedding is scheduled for November 8.

On Tuesday, Police Superintendent Ashwini Shainvi took stock of the situation in the Patharwali village and assured Sharma family members of security. Directions have been issued to deploy few police officers along with PCR at her residence.

Sarva Jatiya Ekta Manch and Lok Sewa Trust said that Neelam Sharama has a right to choose her partner and objection to it is condemnable.
