New Delhi: Increasing the speed of trains is expected to be among core issues in the upcoming Rail Budget. Semi high speed trains, with a speed of 130-160 kmph, are expected to be announced by Railway Minister PK Bansal. Imported bogies will be used for such trains and later they are planned to be produced indigenously.

The sources say, the Railway Ministry is mulling on the proposals of two different types of semi high speed trains. First will be those having speed between 130 kmph and 160 kmph whereas the trains of second category will have speed between 160 kmph and 200 kmph. The semi high speed trains will be tested on the existing track before being commissioned formally. The railway tracks will be upgraded if upgradation will be required.

Apart from this, the Railway Ministry is also mulling on the proposal for Railway Training Institute in Rae Bareli and Amethi. The Kakodkar and Sam Pitroda Committees had recommended for new training institutes. There will also be announcements to equip few stations with ultra-modern facilities with the investment of Rs 100-200 crore. At present, there are only two stations which fall into the category of ultra modern stations. These include Tilak Terminal in Mumbai and Anand Vihar Station in Delhi.
