Jorhat: Senior advocate, veteran journalist and social activist Manik Chandra Khound on Friday died at a private hospital in Assam's Jorhat district on Friday, family sources said.

He was 86 years and is survived by a son and a daughter.

Khound earlier practised in Calcutta High Court but shifted in the year 1961 to Jorhat Session court.

He was also a former General Secretary of Bharatiya Chah Parishad and Editor of Weekly Janambhumi for 30 years. He was also a Lecturer of Jorhat Law College for past 40 years and was the Secretary and President for three terms of Jorhat Rotary Club.

Khound was also the life member of Asom Sahitya Sabha and President of Jorhat Theater, Consumer Protection Committee and Jorhat Blind School till his death.
