Mumbai, Jan 07 (Agencies): The Bombay Stock Exchange index Sensex dipped below the crucial 20,000-points mark at 1130 hrs on Friday, with auto and financial stocks leading the fall on concerns over rising food inflation.

The 30-share barometer dipped below 20,000 points level by losing 219.31 points or 1.09 per cent to quote at 19,965.43 points at 1130 hrs.

The broad-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty also breached the psychological 6,000 points level, declining by 71.25 points or 1.18 per cent to trade at 5,977.00 points.

Market analysts said continued selling by funds and retail investors on rising food inflation concerns dragged the Sensex from its psychological 20,000 points level.

A mixed trend in the Asian region further fuelled the downtrend, they said.
