Mumbai: The BSE benchmark Sensex on Friday extended gains for the third straight session by adding another 44 points in early trade, on sustained buying by funds and retail investors.

The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty moved up by 11.80 points, or 0.22 percent, to 5,424.15.
Brokers said sustained buying by funds in shares of auto, oil and gas and consumer durable sectors supported the rise in the Sensex.
