New Delhi: Terming the recent decision of the UPA government over economic reforms as anti-people, TMC leader KD Singh on Monday said that the happiness of the common man does not depend upon the ups and downs of stock markets.

"Sensex is not the index of people's happiness, those who are happy with the Sensex going up want only money. Didi ( Mamata Banerjee) is concerned about the 'aam aadmi', and the TMC’s rally is to raise their voice."

The Trinamool Congress launched demonstration against the government’s decision on FDI in retail at the Jantar Mantar here on Monday.

TMC, which has 19 members in the Lok Sabha, pulled out its six ministers from the government on September 21 and withdrew support to the Congress-led UPA over these issues.

"Withdrawing from the UPA was the first step. A series of protests have been planned in the coming days till the decisions are withdrawn," Singh said.

The protest by Trinamool leaders from across the country is against the recent government’s decisions to allow foreign investment in multi-brand retail, hike in the prices of diesel and capping the number of subsidised LPG cylinders.
