The 30-share index, which had lost over 1,139 points in the previous eight sessions, recovered by 41.67 points, or 0.22 percent, to 19,205.69 with stocks of consumer durables, auto and IT sector firms leading the recovery.
Similarly, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty rose by 9.90 points, or 0.17 percent, to 5,687.80. Brokers said fresh buying by funds amid a mixed trend in other Asian bourses mainly influenced the sentiment.
In other Asian markets, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index was up by 0.16 percent, while Japan's Nikkei was down by 1.02 percent in morning trade.
