The 30-share barometer, which rose 298.67 points in the previous session, gained 70.59 points, or 0.24 percent, to 28,806.97 in early trade.
    
On similar lines, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty rose 23.95 points, or 0.27 percent, at 8,747.25. Brokers said selective buying by funds and retailers amid a mixed trend at other Asian markets ahead of a policy announcement by the US Federal Reserve influenced trading sentiments.
    
Among other Asian markets, Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up by 0.94 percent while Japan's Nikkei fell 0.07 percent in early trade on Wednesday. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.71 percent lower in Tuesday's trade.
