The 30-share barometer declined 66.73 points or 0.24 percent to 27,736.51 with sectoral indices led by bank, metal and teck, trading in the negative zone.

The index had risen 92.72 points in the previous session. The NSE Nifty was trading lower by 24.00 points or 0.28 per cent at 8,517.20.

Brokers said apart from profit-booking in recent gainers, disappointing earnings by some companies and a mixed trend in other Asian markets, influenced trading sentiment.

Shares of Axis bank fell 1.93 to Rs 527.20 after the company posted disappointing quarterly earnings. Hong Kong's Hang Seng was down 0.28 percent while Japan's Nikkei up 0.38 percent in early trade today. Shanghai Composite rose 0.24 percent.

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.29 percent higher on Friday.
