Baqouba, a former al-Qaeda stronghold, is 60 kilometres Northeast of Baghdad.

Three medical officials confirmed the figures. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorised to release information. Violence in Iraq has intensified since April to levels not seen since 2008. More than 4,000 people have been killed over the past five months.
