Srinagar: Around 49 workers of Opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) have joined the ruling National Conference in Kulgam district of south Kashmir, a party spokesman said on Saturday.
"As many as 49 workers of PDP joined National Conference at Damhal Hanjipora in the presence of Social Welfare Minister Sakina Itoo yesterday," the spokesman said.
Describing the joining of PDP workers in National Conference as a ‘major jolt’ for the main Opposition, the spokesman said that they were motivated by the people-friendly policies of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah-led government.
The minister welcomed the PDP workers into the party fold and said, "National Conference will give due honour to each worker".
With the joining of the PDP workers, the National Conference will strengthen its base at the grassroots level in the area, the spokesman said. She asked them to serve the people and spread the programmes and policies of the National Conference and coalition government.
