Kolkata: Seven police personnel of Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), deployed for anti-Maoist operation in the Jangalmahal area of West Bengal, were suspended on charges of indiscipline just before the arrival of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Taking a stern view of the protest fast held by the security personnel, the authorities on Friday had suspended 7 IRB personnel and ordered departmental probe against 20 others who were raising voices against their posting at dangerous places.

A top official of State Armed Police said that 300 personnel of Battalion No 1 of IRB, who participated in the agitation, have been transferred to State Armed Police Barrack at Barrackpore.

Action may be taken against some more, added the official. The official turned down the question of any redressal of the grievances raised by the security personnel.

Earlier, the IRB personnel had staged protest on September 21 against the lackadaisical attitude of the top officials.

They had ended the protest after intervention of former DG, Armed Forces, Gautam Mohan Chakravorty who had assured them to take up the issue with the officials concerned.
