The deceased have been identified as Louis GN Bentor, Sudha Sridharan, 32, Chandaben Patel, 50, Sundrabai R Pardhi, 70, Rajshree A Pardhi, 32, Aditya A Pardhi, 10, and eight-year old Ayush A Pardhi, according to BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) control room.

According to fire brigade officials, a large portion of the dilapidated building fell on an adjoining slum area.

“Some two-three families are feared trapped in Catherine Chawl in the slum area,” Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation Control Room informed earlier.

No reports of any casualties were reported till Friday evening. The rescue operations are still underway at the site.

According to reports, the building was declared dangerous since 2007.  Most of the families vacated the apartment but two families continued to live in the ground floor flats.  The residents had requested BMC to demolish the building but no action was taken.
