72-year-old Asaram was produced before District and Sessions Judge (Rural) Manoj K Vyas who remanded him in one-day police custody.

Earlier, Asaram was questioned by Jodhpur Police for about four hours at Rajasthan Armed Constabulary Battalion Campus in Mandore.

The controversial spiritual guru was arrested from his ashram at Indore. The sexual assault allegedly took place at Asaram's Manai ashram following which a case was initially registered in Delhi and later transferred to Jodhpur for probe.

Meanwhile, Jodhpur Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph said, "Asaram is cooperating in the investigation and replying to every question from the police."

There are still some issues that need to be worked out for a "water-tight" case against Asaram, the police official said. Joseph did not rule out the possibility of some fresh evidences surfacing during the investigation.

Asaram's counsel Jagmal Choudhary said, "He is not escaping the investigation and replying to questions from police." Choudhary raised the viability of section 376 of IPC (rape) against his client saying it was motivated by ill-will of the conspirators, who have implicated Asaram in this case.
