The 69-year-old got his first break in "Yakeen" (1969), and since then, he has been credited with a slew of songs, scripts and poems, which have been highly appreciated.

Farhan Akhtar, Javed's son from his first marriage to Honey Irani, said the family has celebrated his journey with a lunch. "Lunch with the family today to mark 50 years since @Javedakhtarjadu first stepped off a train at Bombay Central station with a big dream," tweeted the actor-filmmaker.
