“The other holidays or festival release dates are already booked by other stars. None of the other holiday dates was free-be it Eid, Diwali, Gandhi Jayanti or Christmas. It was only Bakri Eid which gave 'Fan' a window for a proper holiday release," said the source.

The source also stated that if the film does not hit the theatres on Bakri-Eid, the release would have to be shifted to 2016, something SRK himself did not want.

Earlier, Aditya Chopra reached out to his friend Karan Johar, informing the delay in 'Fan' release and suggesting him to release his ‘Brothers’ instead.

Chopra personally called Johar to inform the delay of the film and urged him to replace the slot with his Akshay Kumar-starrer ‘Brothers’.

An important weekend slot prior to Independence Day, August 14 was booked for the release of Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Fan’.

Meanwhile, Salman Khan starrer 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' is slated to release on Eid.
