Agadir: India's Sharmila Nicollet, who had a rough start on the front nine on a breezy day at the Golf de l'Ocean, carded three-over 75 in the opening round of the Laila Meryem Cup in Morocco.

Nicollet, a member of the WGAI Tour in India, had three bogeys and one double bogey between the fourth and seventh holes. But she steadied somewhat with birdies on 10th and 11th, but again a bogey on 14th saw her end the day at 75. She had a double bogey on fifth.

French duo of Jade Schaeffer and Julie Maisongrosse fired matching rounds of four-under 67 to grab the first round lead.

The pair ended the day a stroke ahead of three other players.

England's Sophie Walker, Swede Linda Wessberg and Rebecca Codd of Ireland shared third place on three-under five of the top 11 players coming from France.

The second round was hit by very strong winds.
