Faizabad: After facing embarrassment in Banda rape and Manoj Gupta murder case, ruling Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) faced another blow on a similar account on Wednesday with a special court order on former party legislator Anand Sen Yadav to life imprisonment in Shashi murder case.

Special Judge Maatambar Singh also granted life term to two other co-accused Anand Sen's driver Vijaysen Yadav and Seema Azad.

In a 53-page verdict, the court convicted the three for killing and hiding the body of Shashi, who went missing in 2007.

The court also held Anand Sen and Vijaysen guilty of oppressing a Dalit for which they were again given lifer. However, the Act did not apply on Seema Azad as she herself is a Dalit.

A fine of Rs 20,000 each was imposed on Anand Sen and Vijay Sen, whereas Rs 15,000 fine was levied on Seema. The court also observed that in case of non-payment of the fine an additional sentence of two years would be imposed on them.

Seema was seen weeping during the court proceedings, which lasted for two hours, as the judge delivered the verdict.

Finding itself at the receiving end, BSP welcomed the verdict and hailed Mayawati government for bringing the guilty to justice. BSP spokesman said that as soon as Anand Sen’s name came up in the case he was immediately dismissed from the Cabinet and later suspended from the party.

“BSP is the only party which did not create any hurdle in prosecution of its MLAs,” the spokesperson added.

It may be noted that Shashi who was studying law at Saket college in Ayodhya and went missing from October 22, 2007. Shashi's father Yogendra Prasad lodged a missing report at Ayodhya police station on October 23, 2007. Later, on October 31, 2007 abduction charges were lodged against Vijay Sen Yadav and Seema Yadav.

Anand Sen was named as an accused after Narco test of Vijaysen.

Anand surrendered in Lucknow’s Ghazipur police station on June 14, 2008. He was sent to Faizabad jail the next day and has been languishing in jail ever since as he was not granted bail.

This is the second time that a BSP legislator has been brought to justice and punished with life imprisonment. Earlier, BSP legislator Shekhar Tiwari was given life term in Auraiya engineer Manoj Gupta murder case on May 6 by a special court in Lucknow.
