Kolkata: Former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor supported West Bengal Chief Minister Banerjee’s strict stand opposing the trade unions' nationwide strikes scheduled for February 28.

Tharoor was in Kolkata to attend a book release event on Sunday. Sharing his views with media over the issue on the sidelines of the event, Tharoor said, “A strike in itself is a negative concept and anti-strike stand is justified.”

He further added, “The Chief Minister is right with her stand over the issue. Strikes largely hamper the progress of a nation. Work is a must for development.”

The former UN Under-Secretary-General Tharoor released a book "The Vision" authored by Aniruddha Bose on the occasion where he was accompanied by his wife Sunanda Tharoor.
